The Gray Whale, as its name suggests, is mottled gray in color. Adults grow between 40 and 46 feet (12-14 meters) long , and weigh between 15 and 35 tons (15,240-35,560 kilograms). The backs of Gray Whales are often partly covered with barnacles. These are small shelled parasites that attach themselves to the whale’s skin and feed on the same kind of microscopic plankton that the whale does.
